Healing After Heartbreak:
A 7-Week Men’s Therapy Group
  • Goal: To support men in processing emotional pain, rebuilding their sense of self, and developing healthier relationship patterns.
  • Format: Weekly 90-minute in-person sessions
  • Group Size: 4–6 participants
  • Facilitation: Led by Mental Health Therapist Queenie, experienced in men’s emotional well-being and relational growth.
  • When: 5:30-7pm every Wednesday 
  • Fee: €40 per person per session
    Total: €280 (to be paid in advance for all sessions)
    Note: Participation is for the full programme only — single-session attendance is not available.
Week-by-Week Outline
Week 1: Orientation & Building Safety
Theme: Establishing trust and defining the healing journey

  • Welcome, introductions, and group agreements
     
  • Discussion on what brings participants to the group
     
  • Psychoeducation: Understanding the stages of breakup and loss
     
  • Icebreaker: “What I hope to gain from this experience”
     
  • Grounding exercise to close the session
 
Week 2: Understanding Loss and Grief
Theme: Naming and validating emotional pain

  • Explore the emotional impact of separation — sadness, anger, guilt, relief, confusion
     
  • Group sharing about how each person has experienced grief
     
  • Gentle education: how men are socialized to suppress emotion and its effects
     
  • Body-based awareness activity: identifying where feelings show up physically
     
  • End with a calming guided reflection
     
Week 3: Identity and Self-Concept
Theme: Rediscovering self after relationship loss

  • Discussion: “Who am I outside of the relationship?”
     
  • Exercise: Mapping lost and rediscovered parts of self
     
  • Explore masculine identity, vulnerability, and authenticity
     
  • Group dialogue on personal strengths and resilience
     
  • Mindful check-out round to integrate insights
     
Week 4: Managing Triggers and Emotional Regulation
Theme: Building tools for emotional resilience

  • Explore common triggers (texts, memories, loneliness, social media)
     
  • Teach and practice grounding techniques and cognitive reframing
     
  • Role play or guided discussion: responding to emotional waves constructively
     
  • Introduce mindfulness or breathwork for emotional containment
     
  • Group reflection on what coping tools feel most natural
     
Week 5: Patterns and Relational Insight
Theme: Understanding relationship dynamics and attachment

  • Interactive discussion: recognizing patterns in past relationships
     
  • Attachment style exploration (avoidant, anxious, secure)
     
  • Small-group work: communication and boundary roleplay
     
  • Reflection: “What have I learned about love, trust, and connection?”
     
  • Group debrief and supportive feedback circle
 
Week 6: Forgiveness and Letting Go
Theme: Finding acceptance and releasing resentment

  • Psychoeducation: what forgiveness is and isn’t
     
  • Guided imagery: letting go of pain, anger, and self-blame
     
  • Group discussion on compassion toward self and others
     
  • Symbolic release activity (writing or visualization)
     
  • Emotional closure with gratitude or affirmation exercise
     
Week 7: Moving Forward with Purpose
Theme: Reconnection, renewal, and growth

  • Review of key takeaways from the group
     
  • Visualization: envisioning a healthier future self and relationships
     
  • Group ritual for closure (gratitude circle, candle lighting, or shared affirmations)
     
  • Sharing of continued support options (individual therapy, men’s groups, journaling)
     
  • Closing reflection: “What strength will I carry forward?”
